To protect your privacy and ensure your security when using our online banking services, it is important to ensure that your computer is safe, therefore, BPI advises you to adopt the following best practices:
- Keep the operating system of your computer up-to-date.
- Install antivirus and anti-spyware software and keep them up-to-date (anti-spyware software is to protect you from programs that gather personal information without your knowledge).
- Scan your computer regularly, by running antivirus and antispyware software, especially if you share your computer with others.
- Use computer access accounts that do not have administration privileges or software-install privileges.
- Keep backups of your most important files.

In a virtual world, the education degree of each user is very important since users who know little about the internet are invariably more vulnerable than those who are acquainted with its dangers.
To protect your privacy and ensure your security when using the internet, BPI advises you to adopt a set of best practices:
- Keep the browser(s) you use to access the internet updated.
- Do not use Favourites or follow links from other sites, emails or any other vehicle. Access the sites you want to visit by typing the address directly into the address bar of your browser.
- Check that the graphic image of the page you are accessing is the same image you are used to. If you notice that the type of window, the information presented or the information requested is other than usual, you should check with the entity if any changes have occurred.
- Validate the Security Certificate of the site where you are browsing. When double-clicking, the browser should open the window with information about the certificate, indicating if it is valid and if it was issued to the correct entity.
- Do not click on pop-up windows (advertising). Avoid this behaviour, for example, on websites that allow you to watch football games for free.
- Never provide personal and/or confidential details without being sure you are on a secure site.
